Encrypted Storage of data records
This version of the Data Tracking Apps provides
an option to store data in an encrypted form for additional security of sensitive
data. This encryption option is available on a data record level and so most data
can be stored without encryption (if desired) and encryption can be turned on only
for sensitive data.
To save encrypted data, click on Add New Record and check the "Encryption on" checkbox
next to the Save button. Enter any data you want to save and click Save. Since the
encryption uses a base user-entered password key for encryption, you will be notified
to turn on Password Protection for the software before encrypted storage is available.
Once a Password
has been set for the software, data will be stored in encrypted format.
Note:- The first 3 fields of any data record are used as the filename of a data
file and so can be visible to an expert computer user using Windows browsing features.
However, all other fields that are stored inside the file are stored encrypted and
will appear as junk characters to any
user who opens the file directly using Windows
browsing features. So, please store sensitive data in fields 4 through 13 of the
data records for additional level of security.
Additional Note:- The encrypted data is irrecoverable (for obvious security reasons)
if the password is lost. So, please save (write down) your password in a safe place.
Also,
use encryption only when required so all other data is retrievable if the
password is lost.
